(WXYZ) — A storm system moves in tonight bringing rain, sleet, and snow across Metro Detroit. Rain will move in after midnight and transition to sleet and then snow in the early morning hours of Saturday. Around 1" of snow is possible, leading to slippery driving conditions early. Snow will end around the lunch hour, leading to mostly cloudy skies for the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will start near 30° in the morning and drop into the low 20s by the evening.
Temperatures continue to drop as arctic air takes over Sunday through Wednesday.
Morning lows will be a few degrees either side of zero Monday through Wednesday. Morning wind chills will drop to dangerous levels of 15 to 25 below zero Monday through Wednesday.
Cold weather alerts and school closings will be possible Tuesday and Wednesday.
This Evening: Partly cloudy with temps in the mid 30s. Winds: SSW 10-20 mph.
Tonight: Rain then snow showers after midnight with lows above freezing in the low to mid 30s. Winds: SSW 15-30 mph.
Saturday: Snow in the morning with many areas getting around 1". Not all of the snow sticks to the roads. Temps start in the low 30s then fall all day. Winds: NW 10-20 mph. Wind chills will range from 5° to 15° by evening.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with flurries possible. Highs in the mid teens with wind chills in the single digits. Winds: SW 10-15 mph.
