TUCSON, Ariz. - Nintendo has released new details on the Switch's upcoming online service.

During its Nintendo Direct on Thursday, the company spoke about five features that the paid service will consist of.

Online Play: Players can team up with friends or face foes in online games including Splatoon 2, Super Mario Party and Smash Bros. Ultimate.

NES games anytime: Classic NES titles will be available anytime, anywhere. Twenty games are available at launch including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and The Legend of Zelda.

Save Data Cloud: Player's save data will now be stored in the cloud, making it easier to retrieve game data if your console breaks or becomes lost. 

Smartphone App: By using the Nintendo Switch Online phone app, gamers can utilize voice chat for compatible games. 

Special Offers: Online members will have access to exclusive features and prices. During the direct, Nintendo showed off new wireless NES controllers to go with the launch of its NES library on the console.

Nintendo Switch Online launches on September 18, 2018. An individual membership costs $19.99 for one year and a family membership for up to 8 account holders is $34.99. Month to month options are also available.
