The man who pleaded guilty to an armed robbery and rape of a woman in the parking garage at the Detroit Opera House will be sentenced on Friday morning.
Darius Deontae Jackson was charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct - penetration, criminal sexual conduct - second degree, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felonious assault and felony firearm for the attack on the 61-year-old woman in February.
“After entering my car, a gun was put to my head and Mr. Jackson demanded my phone then purse,” the victim recounted in court on Thursday.
Officers say Jackson followed the woman into the garage, and once inside, he approached her, took her money, and told her to get in the back seat.
“He put a gun to my head and asked if I wanted to die," she said. "I don’t know how close to death I was, but I do know I did not want to be raped.”
Police say the woman complied with him because he was holding a gun. Once inside, police say he physically assaulted the woman and sexually assaulted her.
She was able to escape and call 911.
“I ended up in the hospital with fractures on my face, a broken finger and some bruises,” the woman said. “The incident is frequently on my mind. Every time I approach my car I can’t help but think of it.”
Jackson took a plea deal to lesser charges in hopes of avoiding 30 years behind bars. The judge will sentence Jackson on Monday.
