A group of Wayne firefighters are heroes to a Downriver mother after helping to deliver her newborn in the back of an ambulance after the child decided to come quickly.
The men and women who respond to emergencies are used to seeing bad endings. This was a happy one.
The men of the Wayne Fire Department enjoyed a much-deserved dinner Thursday.
It was an eventful morning - delivering a 6 lb. 8 oz. baby girl.
A call came in about a woman in labor on Gloria Street – just a few minutes from the firehouse.
The guys responded.
They loaded her up in the ambulance and headed towards the hospital, but the child couldn’t wait.
At 8:36 a.m., the baby was born.
It doesn’t happen that often, but the department is ready with specialized kits and a firehouse full of ready and willing responders.
The mother is still in the hospital, but we’re told she and the baby are doing well.
