A boil water alert has been put into place for all residents of Hamtramck and for people living in parts of Detroit and Highland Park.
In Detroit, the advisory covers the area bordered by McNichols to the south, Linwood to the east and Conner to the west. The Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University are also affected by the boil water alert.

City officials say it was triggered by a sudden loss of pressure in the system from the Great Lakes Water Authority.
The Great Lakes Water Authority says they hope to have the issue fixed by Friday morning, but the advisory will remain until results from tests show the water is safe for consumption.
Recommendations:
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
