Family's beloved dog killed by downed power line that remains live

Posted

Even though tremendous progress has been made, there's still concern over downed power lines. For one family, it turned deadly for their family pet.

It's been a long six days for Nick James and his family. A live wire is still down in their yard in Saline Township.

James tells us, "We keep calling DTE and telling them it's on fire, but they're just too busy."

He stresses having no lights doesn't matter to them, but it's been tough losing their trusted dog and family member Jasmine.

James tells 7 Action News he was feeding his animals when his German short hair got loose, chased a squirrel, and ran into the downed wire.

He sadly told us, "I had to hear it cry. I had to hear it underneath the power line. I was just praying it would make it out and back to the house. It did, but died."

Thousands were still wishing and waiting for electricity as of Monday night.

For another homeowner on Manistee in Oak Park, he claims he's been staring at a down live wire and tree for days. His car is severely damaged, and the electricity continues to go on and off, on and off.

When asked what's your biggest fear, he responded, "My family, to be living with this here and the power line is down."
