Two are literally related. The third came out of nowhere. Three murders in the last two weeks in Sterling Heights have people on edge.

Police and city officials aren’t saying much about progress in their investigations.

Mayor Michael Taylor tells 7 Action News, “The only thing I’ll say is we have good reason to believe the victims were specifically targeted.  And I want to reassure the community they can feel safe in Sterling Heights.”

The families of 51-year-old Sufian Saba and 26-year-old Laith Anki only told family and close friends where their funerals were held. They were killed five days apart inside their family business known as Laith Candyland.

Then this past weekend,  24-year-old Kiah Hopson was shot several times in the parking lot of the Parkside Apartments.

The Mayor hasn’t spoken with either of the families but says investigators are working around the clock.

“What I would tell them is the City Council in Sterling Heights is giving the police department all the resources it needs.  We will authorize all the overtime that is necessary.”
