A 16 year-old girl from Warren is hospitalized after family members said she was beaten. They tell 7 Action News her bone disease has caused her injuries to be more severe.
The incident happened on Monday at an apartment near 8 Mile & Van Dyke in Warren. Deszirae Jenkins, 16, was leaving for school when her family said two people attacked her and hit her with a brick.
She is now in the hospital and family members said she has at least seven broken bones.
"There is surgery to come, right now they're trying to figure out is there brain damage, if anything is wrong, she is so beaten up,” said Pamela Backos, Jenkin’s grandmother.
Her family believes she knew at least one of her attackers but they don’t know why she was targeted.
They have met with Warren police and an investigation is underway, but officers have not put out an official suspect description.
