Police in a small Florida town are still trying to find who took the life of Joshua Monroe.

“He had such a warm heart and an honest personality,” said his brother D.J Monroe.

Family in Warren are preparing to say goodbye to the young father.

Police in Gulfport, Florida tell us it was late one night last week when Monroe was gunned down. His brother, told us what he knows.

“Inside or outside of Josh’s home, there was some sort of altercation. It led to my brother chasing this person down the street, and that person turned around and shot him three times,” said Monroe.

Monroe would die a short time later at the hospital. A Marine, who served his country overseas, he was only in Florida for a short time, having moved down there from Warren just months ago.

Regardless of how the 31-year-old died, his family wants folks to remember the Josh they knew.

“Just the way he smiled when he entered a room,” says his brother.

Why someone would shoot him so brutally, he adds, “It just doesn’t make any sense to me.”

Josh didn’t have life insurance, and the family is hoping to raise funds for his young daughter. They have set up a GoFundMe page.

As for the investigation into Josh’s murder, sources tell 7 Action News, there are some persons of interest, but no arrest has been made.
