Take a free ride on the Detroit People Mover for its 30th birthday

The Detroit People Mover debuted on this day, 30 years ago, and to celebrate its birthday, they are offering free rides all day long.

The People Mover will offer the free rides from 6:30 a.m. to midnight to all of its 13 stops throughout downtown Detroit.

On top of that, there will be free samples of Detroit Water Ice from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grand Circus Park and Financial District stations.

It opened for service on July 31, 1987 and over 65 million trips have been taken on the train in 30 years.
