It was an amazing day Thursday for a young man who survived a family tragedy.
Salvatore Cipriano was on the pitcher's mound at Comerica Park.
The 22-year-old threw out the first pitch at the Tigers game.
He's been through five years of intensive rehabilitation since 2012, when his older brother was involved in a brutal attack on the family.
Cipriano's father was killed, and he and his mother were badly beaten.
Relatives say Salvatore and his dad, who was killed, shared a special bond with their love of baseball.
They shared their story last year with WXYZ.
