Detroit school board approves Nikolai Vitti as new superintendent

Posted

The Detroit Public Schools Community District has selected a new superintendent to lead the district.

The board voted unanimously Tuesday to approve Nikolai Vitti, the current superintendent of Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida.

However, this does not mean Vitti has officially been hired. The vote means they will begin negotiations with him to take the job.

The school board also approved a motion towards a consultant contract with Vitti that would include interim superintendent Alyvia Meriweather, whose term ends June 30.
