A five-year-old Detroit boy remains hospitalized as he undergoes detox for cocaine that was reportedly found in his system.
The child's mother took him to Children's Hospital Tuesday afternoon because he was behaving erratically. It was at the hospital where the boy tested positive for the drug during a urine analysis.
Police questioned and then arrested the boy's 37-year-old mother who claims she has no idea where her son was exposed to cocaine. She suggested it could have been from his school.
The woman told police her son attends an elementary school in Taylor.
7 Action News reached out to the district's superintendent who says they are 100% certain that the child was not exposed to the drug in school, but the superintendent said he could not comment any further.
The boy and his mother live on Englewood near Woodward in Detroit. Neighbors say they live with a family friend.
Sources say police found drug paraphernalia in the home.
Child Protective Services is now involved in the police investigation.
