Today, the new Detroit Foundation Hotel opens to the public.
The hotel is located at the corner of Larned and Washington in downtown Detroit. The building used to be the city's fire headquarters for decades.
While the space has been transformed, it holds on to many of its special features.
"We've been able to take this historic building and create it into this beautiful modern space," says Amber Rose Powers, Director of Lifestyle & Programming for The Detroit Foundation Hotel.
The building is 5 stories. It has 100 guest rooms and a restaurant called the Apparatus Room on the first floor.
The hotel is a blend of the old and the new. You'll see the original tile from the fire headquarters building, along with its exposed brick walls.
In the rooms, you'll find local wallpaper, Detroit favorites in the mini-bar, and even some of the furniture made by local makers.
Bob Lambert is the hotel's general manager. He describes the Detroit Foundation Hotel as having a high end, modern feel - a place for everyone to enjoy.
"We want it to be a place where people come for special occasions, but also their hangout. What we really want when people leave here, is have a sense of community and understand that we tried to build a product that supports Detroit .. and what's happening in Detroit," says Lambert.
