Detroit family blasts AT&T for not getting their grandmother's landline phone fixed

A Detroit grandmother has been without her lifeline for almost a month. Her lifeline being her landline telephone.

When storms rolled through metro Detroit in the beginning of May, it knocked out power and phone service for a lot of folks.

Eighty-four-year-old Mary Burnett was one of them. Her phone is still on the fritz.

Her daughter, Wendeline, has placed several calls to AT&T.

They tell 7 Action News, the company doesn’t return calls and never showed up when they said they would.

Mary is suffering a host of health issues and needs the phone in case of an emergency. She also likes having some independence.

But what about those of you thinking: Why not get her a cell phone?

“My mother is old school, She doesn’t want a cell phone. We could have gotten her that. That wasn’t the issue. You let an 84-year-old woman just fall by the wayside; you didn’t even care. I resent it and I demand that she get an apology and I want her service back on and you better not charge her,” Wendeline said.

7 Action News reached out to AT&T. A spokesperson tells us they are looking into what happened and will send a technician as soon as possible.
