Person of interest in custody, reward offered after 3 bodies found in car fire in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police say a person of interest is in custody after three people were found dead in a car that was on fire early Sunday morning.

Police say there called to the scene around 6 a.m. on a report of a car fire near Milford Street and 30th Street. Once the fire was put out, three bodies were pulled from the vehicle.

A mother family member tells 7 News Detroit the victims are her sister, her mother, and her 9-year-old girl.

Monday, police chief Todd Bettison told 7 News Detroit, "We do have, ya know, some good evidence and.. but I have to really be tight-lipped (not wanting) to compromise the investigation. But I will tell you that there's no longer a danger to the community. That it was a isolated case, but it's really a sad case."

"I have a 9-year-old child who was brutally killed is very disturbing to the Detroit community and to me. This case really got under my skin," Bettison added.

We're told the Homicide Task Force, which is comprised of Detroit police and Michigan State Police, are working to identify the three people who were in the car.

Police believe it is an isolated incident, and they are offering a $5,000 reward.
