NFL Draft Day 2 live blog: Lions draft cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr., six Wolverines drafted

The second day of the NFL Draft in Detroit is here and after a big pick by the Lions in the first round. The draft Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold at No. 24.

The Lions have the 29th pick in the second round – 61st overall, and that's it so far (as of 6 p.m.) for Friday at the draft. They sent the 73rd pick to the Dallas Cowboys as part of a trade to move up to No. 24 to draft Arnold.

There are also several former Michigan Wolverines players on the board that could get selected in the second and third round, including Blake Corum, Roman Wilson, Junior Colson and more.

6 p.m.

We're officially one hour away from the start of the second day of the NFL Draft. Tens of thousands of fans have converged on Downtown Detrot once again after 275,000 people showed up yesterday.

The Lions have the 61st pick and will likely pick around 9 p.m., unless they trade up or down.

7 p.m.

Night 2 of the NFL Draft kicked off with the 2023 Michigan football team being honored. Current players on the team, including defensives tackle Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, tight end Colston Loveland and cornerback Will Johnson, walked on stage with their National Championship trophy.

7:20 p.m.

Keon Coleman, who played at Florida State last season after playing two seasons of football at Michigan State and appearing in six basketball games for the Spartans in 2021-22, was selected with the first pick of the second round. Coleman was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 33rd overall pick.

8:20 p.m.

With the 49th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Michigan defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. In 37 games with the Wolverines, Jenkins racked up 113 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Jenkins was a key part of a Michigan defense that was statistically one of the best in college football the last few seasons.

8:27 p.m.

Michigan Wolverines were selected in back-to-back picks in the second round, with the Washington Commanders selecting cornerback Mike Sainristil.

Sainristil was a key leader on the Wolverines, being voted a Team Captain twice. Sainristil played as a wide receiver for three seasons before switching over to the other side of the ball in his final two seasons; in those two seasons as a defensive back, Sainristil made 102 tackles to go along with 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, seven interceptions, 13 passes defensed and two touchdowns. His interception in the final five minutes of the National Championship sealed the victory for the Wolverines.

8:55 p.m.: With the 56th pick, the Dallas Cowboys selected Western Michigan Edge Marshawn Kneeland. In 37 games across four seasons with the Broncos, Kneeland racked up 149 tackles, 28.0 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, three passes defensed, and three forced fumbles.

9:15 p.m.: With the 61st pick in the draft, the Detroit Lions selected another cornerback, picking Ennis Rakestraw Jr. from Missouri. In 35 games across four seasons with the Tigers, Rakestraw made 107 tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss, one interception, 24 passes defensed, one fumble recovery and three forced fumbles.

The pick was announced by Lions legend and NFL Hall-of-Famer Barry Sanders and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

9:45 p.m.: With one of the first picks in the third round, the Los Angeles Chargers selected Michigan linebacker Junior Colson, No. 69 overall. He appeared in 43 games over the last three seasons — arguably the most dominant three-year stretch in Michigan football history — and made 256 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, five passes defensed and a fumble recovery. Colson will be reunited with his old college head coach, Jim Harbaugh, and his former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter in Los Angeles.

10:30 p.m.: With the 83rd pick in the draft, the Los Angeles Rams selected Michigan running back Blake Corum. In 45 games over four seasons, the first-team All-American running back racked up 3,737 yards and 58 rushing touchdowns, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, while catching 56 passes for 413 yards and three receiving touchdowns. With 27 scores, Corum holds the record for for most rushing touchdowns in a season, breaking the record in the National Championship game. He was the offensive MVP of that game.

10:30 p.m.: For the second time this evening, Michigan Wolverines were selected with back-to-back draft picks, with the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Roman Wilson with the 84th overall pick. In 46 games across four seasons, Wilson caught 107 passes for 1,707 yards and 20 touchdowns. He started all 15 games this past season, and was named an All-Big Ten selection (second team, coaches and media).

10:35 p.m.: We saw three Michigan players get selected with consecutive picks, with guard Zak Zinter getting picked by the Cleveland Browns. Zinter was part of an offensive line that won back-to-back Joe Moore awards, given out to the best offensive line in college football, in 2021 and 2022. Zinter, who was a unianimous All-American in 2022, broke his tibia and fibula in the win over Ohio State this past November.
