School bus hits, kills 9-year-old student in Maryland right after dropping her off at bus stop

BETHESDA, Md. — Police are continuing to investigate after a 9-year-old girl was struck and killed by her own school bus last Thursday in Bethesda, Maryland.

It happened around 3:48 p.m., just after the the victim and several other Montgomery County Public School students had been dropped off at the intersection of Tanglewood Drive and Millwood Road.

The bus driver, identified as 53-year-old Serigne Makhtar Ndiaye, had reportedly tried making a right turn from Tanglewood Drive onto Millwood Road when the child was hit. She later passed away at Children's National Hospital.

No charges have been filed as Montgomery County Police still haven't determined what caused the crash or who was at fault.

The girl's name hasn't been released.
