PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Ten kenneled dogs were able to escape a blaze thanks to firefighters in Phoenix early Wednesday morning.

Phoenix Fire Department officials were dispatched to a property near 40th Street and Bell Road before 1 a.m. for a reported fire. Responding crews found a wooden structure near a home that had gone up in flames.

Officials say the structure contained kenneled dogs and during the fire attack, firefighters opened multiple kennel gates, allowing the animals to escape.

Fortunately, the owner told officials that no animals were harmed during the incident and 10 dogs were freed from the fire.

According to a text message from one of the kennel owners to KNXV reporter Claudia Rupcich: "All the dogs are safe in an un damaged building. I’m in the process of contacting the owners. We appreciate all the first responders for their swift efforts to put out the fire."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
