Missing man with autism found safe, Monroe County deputies say

MONROE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A missing man with autism in Monroe County was found safe, the sheriff's office said.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office on Thursday asked for help in their search for Steve Lawrence, 29, of Exeter Township. He was last seen Thursday just before 11:30 a.m. leaving his home on Capernall Road near Colf Road.

Deputies say Lawrence was seen walking into a wooded area across the street from the home. His caregivers reported that he did not return home after going into the woods.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and drone and K-9 units searched the area.

Thursday evening, the sheriff's office said Lawrence had been found safe at around 7:30 p.m. in Woodhaven on Allen Road near West Road. He was not hurt and was safely taken home.
