DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that happened on Thursday night.

Police say a man was struck by a vehicle near Woodward and Edmund Place around 10:44 p.m.

The victim died from his injuries.

A police source tells 7 News Detroit the man had just left the Red Wings game with another family member.

“We pretty much just see I believe it was a challenger just dart down the road, we see something fly up in the air," said Alyssa Carnes. "We thought it was maybe like a box or something fell off of someone’s car."

Alyssa Carnes and her boyfriend, Sean Gallagher, had just left the Red Wings game on Thursday night and as they were walking to their car, they saw the hit and run.

"One thing that stuck out with me was just seeing everyone’s initial reactions and the city just went silent for like 15 seconds and that was something that was kind of weird because Detroit after a game, it’s really loud, it’s busy but it just went silent,” said Sean Gallagher.

“You see something like that, you never think you’re going to and then you do and you just want to help all you can,” said Carnes.

Carnes says many people rushed to the aide of the man after he was hit.

“There was someone there who was doing CPR, I read further on that they ended up being a nurse,” said Carnes.

The couple say they hope the person who was behind the wheel of the car that hit the man turns themselves in.

“If you are any kind of decent human being, you know you would do it,” said Carnes. “You would come forward…. And just pray that this family forgives you.”

Speaking of the man’s family, Carnes and Gallagher has this message for them.

“My heart breaks for you truly like if there’s anything us or the people of Detroit, anyone could do, it’s truly just horrific,” said Carnes.

“We really want to help in any way you can cause no one should be able to deal with this. It’s extremely traumatic,” said Gallagher.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the Detroit Police Department's Fatal Squad Unit at 313-596-2280.
