Beginning Friday night, Oct. 20, the Detroit-Windsor tunnel will close for 10 days for renovations in what was a planned closure.

The closure begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 and it won't reopen until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30. It's expected to affect nearly 12,000 drivers per day.

Renovations have already begun on the tunnel and included masonry and electrical work to replace the concrete ceiling and other infrastructure improvements.

In August, the Canada Border Services Agency said the tunnel will close every weeknight from November through June for more renovations. Those plans are still on.

From Oct. 30 through Nov. 22, the tunnel will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday - Thursday.

The tunnel will be open Nov. 23-26 for the Thanksgiving holiday with no restrictions.

Then, it will close again Sunday nights and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. from Nov. 27 through Dec. 23.

It will open up for Christmas with no restrictions from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1. From Jan. 2 through mid-June, it will be closed 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

The renovations will be complete by mid-June.
