A man was critically injured in a shooting at a business in Farmington Hills on Tuesday morning.
It happened around 8 a.m. at Specialty Steel Treating Inc. in the area of 8 Mile and Orchard Lake roads.
Police say officers responded after a 911 call from a man who said he shot someone in the parking lot.
According to police, the situation stemmed from an ongoing workplace dispute among employees that turned violent. Several people were quickly detained.
“At this time, there is no danger to the public. All involved the parties have been identified and the weapons involved have been seized,” Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King said in a statement. “I want to commend the speed and efficiency of our officers’ response, in containing and stabilizing this dangerous scene and ensuring the safety of our community."
Officers on scene interviewed several people involved, including the man who admitted to being involved in the shooting.
The victim, 25-year-old Dawon Bausley, was also identified after arriving at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. He is in critical but stable condition.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with people fleeing and others rushing back into the building. Ryan Wheeler, who works nearby, recounted the moments following the shots.
“It’s just so quiet out here, and then you just hear that loud noise. I saw people trying to get away from the scene,” he said. “It was a little commotion, a little chaos.”
The victim's mother Emisha Bausley expressed her pain after receiving a distressing phone call about the incident.
"I got the phone call from my husband saying an incident occurred at his job that he has been shot," she said. “As a mother, I shouldn’t be on this news because I look at the news every day. But now, it’s me."
She revealed that her son holds a concealed pistol license and did have his firearm, though it remains unclear if he drew it during the altercation.
She said solving a dispute does not need to lead to guns or violence.
"Put the guns down. We don't need it," Emisha Bausley said. "I just pray that my son will be OK and what happened? Once again we've got violence."
King confirmed that at least two firearms were involved in the shooting. He assured the community that the incident was isolated, with all parties knowing each other.
Police say they are still in the early stages of this investigation.
