Grab your best running shoes because Wednesday, June 5 is Global Running Day.

What Is Global Running Day?

"Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving," according to GlobalRunningDay.com.

How To Celebrate?

There are several ways to celebrate Global Running Day. You can take a run around your neighborhood by yourself or head to a scenic location with friends to run during sunrise or sunset.

If running is part of your daily routine and you enjoy participating in races, then you can sign up to join a virtual race against runners around the world.

The free NYRR Virtual Race, powered by Strava, allows you to run one mile anywhere in the world and then compare your running time on a leaderboard. To sign up, click here.

Another way to celebrate is by posting a photo of someone who has had an impact on your running and using the hashtag #GRDChallenge — an idea started by Chris Heuisler, the official running concierge for Westin Hotels.

Heuisler posed the Global Running Day challenge on social media. In the Instagram video, he encourages people to give back to the running community by sharing a photo of someone who impacted their running journey. It could be someone who encouraged you, a running partner or even someone you hope will pick up the habit of running.

Get Social!

However you decide to celebrate running, be sure to upload your photos to social media using hashtag #GlobalRunningDay.
