Guitarist undergoing chemo treatment sings heartwarming duet with his nurse

Posted

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — With Christmas just around the corner, a Nashville nurse and her chemotherapy patient teamed up for a special duet of "O Holy Night" that's melting hearts.

Penn Pennington played guitar at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in the 1980s. He was recently admitted to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center for chemotherapy treatment, and when his nurse found out about his musical gift, she brought him a surprise.

"My dad's nurse, Alex, heard that he was a guitar player so she brought her guitar for him to play during his chemotherapy treatments and sang O Holy Night with him. Who knew she could also sing," Pennington's daughter, Brandi Mykle Leath, wrote in a Facebook post.

Leath encouraged people to share the video to get the word out about Alex.

Since the video was uploaded to Facebook on Sunday, it's been viewed more than 300,000 times.
